As the atmosphere continues to get more unstable as temperatures approach the mid 70s, the severe weather threat is increasing. The latest update from the Storm Prediction Center places the region in a “Moderate” risk of severe weather. This is a level 4 out of 5 threat.
Damaging wind appears to be the primary hazard. Some wind gusts could be in excess of 70 mph in the magenta hatched area.
A secondary tornado threat also exists. A strong tornado or two can’t be ruled out in the yellow hatched area below.
Storms are expected to move into the region after 4 PM this afternoon. I’ll keep updating throughout the day.
